Importance of Fasting on the Day of Arafah
Fasting on the Day of Arafah, which occurs just before Eid al-Adha, holds immense spiritual significance in Islam. This day is observed on the 9th of Dhu al-Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and it is considered one of the holiest days for Muslims.
The Day of Arafah is particularly important for those performing the Hajj pilgrimage, as it involves standing in prayer and reflection on the plain of Arafah, a ritual that is regarded as the pinnacle of the Hajj. There are some other reasons why we can fast during the Day of Arafah:
It is the day when the Prophet (?) gave his last sermon
Prophet Muhammad (?) delivered his final sermon on Mount Arafah, emphasizing adherence to the Qur’an and Sunnah, and addressing issues of racism, gender equality, and human rights.
Fasting helps us reflect on the teachings of the Prophet (?).
The day Allah (?) releases souls from Hell
The Prophet (?) said: “There is no day in which Allah sets free more souls from the fire of hell than on the day of Arafah.”
[Sahih Muslim]
Fasting is a way for you to focus on your prayers and seek forgiveness and protection from the Hellfire.
Fasting on the day of Arafah Erase Sins for 2 Years
The Prophet Muhammad (?) said:
"I seek from Allah that fasting on the day of Arafah may atone for the sins of the preceding and the coming year”
