Just as your staff are your greatest asset in a business, people and new relationships always play a major role in your continued success in life.
If you look back over your life you will probably notice that your life got better after meeting certain people or developing a relationship with someone. One can feel alone despite being surrounded by a sea of people and then by chance or intention you run into someone and you get inspired.
As a business owner, entrepreneur or executive one has to understand the benefits of being in communication with others and developing relationships with people. I have had the great pleasure of having met some extraordinary people in this life time that had a profound effect on me and helped me look at thinks differently.
Learning to understand people can be a matter of trial and error. Many people are not necessarily going to be like you but they may have areas of competence that could complement yours. The main reason people are critical of others is because they don’t understand others. Understanding someone comes about by looking at their background, where they were brought up and the ethnics of that environment, what their level of education was but the main thing that I learned to look for was what the person had and could produce. I don’t just listen to a person I look at what they have done and are presently doing, as that is the best gauge of whether they are worth listening to or not.
PRODUCTIVITY
You can learn a lot about people by their how much and their quality of production. Many people can be very convincing when you talk to them and you could be totally believing that they are incredible and you so want to be connected with them only to find out the truth later that they never achieved anything close to what they portrayed. The key is to check their production and find out if what they said they did was accurate. This is also valuable when hiring someone.
- Is the person’s product or service delivered at a high quality level?
- Look at a person’s surroundings observe how they operate are their belongings in good order.
- What groups are they involved in?
- Do they have sound relationships?
- Do they like to help people?
BE WILLING TO TALK TO PEOPLE
Go out to community events and find out what you can do to help. Start your own network group. Join a club and take an active role in it. You will find that these types of activities can act as very positive outflow actions and open up the doors for possible expansion for you and your business. You will usually feel better personally, as an added bonus.
You always have something to offer and even more than you might think but by being willing to open conversations with people, you never know where it might lead.
Large empires are usually built by a number of people. Henry Ford had eleven partners when he started, what became the Ford Motor Company. You may have a goal but it often takes a group of people to help you take it to a level that you originally believed it could reach.
It’s nice to be able to plan everything out precisely but for me, it sometimes takes talking to competent people and getting new ideas before a plan really comes together. I have often come up with a great idea but it never got off the ground because there was a missing step and by talking it over with people I was able to find the missing ingredient and suddenly able to get into action on the project.
Start building your network of relationships and see what happens.
I look forward to being able to help you build your business to a level beyond where you are now.
