The Importance of Culture: Smell the Roses and What It Means for Business Success

Throughout the year I’ve been sharing our Culture Codes via a series of posts and this is my penultimate one for 2024.

At Engaging.io, we live by our culture codes, knowing that a strong company culture is the bedrock of both employee engagement and business success. Our culture is the driving force that connects employees not only to their work but to the core #values and #mission of the company. When employees understand and align with a company’s culture, they become empowered to perform at their best, driving the organisation forward with passion and creativity.

Culture is not just a collection of rules or guidelines—it is a shared understanding of how we work, collaborate and grow as a team. By fostering an environment where employees feel connected to the company’s values and #purpose, we enable them to contribute meaningfully, both individually and as part of a cohesive unit. The result is a workplace where people are more engaged, creative, and resilient, all of which lead to better outcomes for both our clients and the business as a whole.

One of the #culture codes we live by at #Engaging is “Smell the Roses,” a reminder to appreciate the beauty around us and maintain a balanced, positive mindset. This code is crucial in today’s fast-paced work environment, especially for leaders aiming to cultivate a healthy, motivated, and productive workforce.

Smell the Roses: Finding Balance and Creativity

In the business world, particularly in tech-driven sectors like ours, it's easy to get lost behind the computer screen, focusing solely on tasks and deadlines. However, great work doesn’t come from relentless hours behind a desk. It comes from a healthy, balanced mind. Smell the Roses encourages our team to take a moment to step away from the screens, clear their minds, and appreciate the world around them.

This culture code recognises that while technology powers our work, what drives our passion and creativity comes from outside of it. Whether it’s a walk in nature, a beautiful building, or time spent with loved ones, these moments refresh us, making us better at what we do. When our minds are open to beauty, we are more creative, calm, and balanced—all key attributes for success in both personal and professional life.

For #business #leaders, this concept is not just about fostering well-being; it’s about boosting performance. Employees who take the time to “smell the roses” come back to their work with fresh perspectives and renewed energy. The impact is tangible—more creative problem-solving, higher job satisfaction, and ultimately, greater #productivity. It’s a simple, yet powerful, strategy to enhance the workplace environment.

Breaking Free from Cynicism

In a world that often feels chaotic and unpredictable, it’s easy for cynicism to creep in. Cynicism may masquerade as wisdom, but in reality, it blocks growth and #innovation. At Engaging.io, we actively fight this mindset by encouraging our team to look for the good in every situation. Smell the Roses reminds us that positivity opens the door to new ideas, collaboration, and trust—qualities essential for any team aiming for greatness.

As leaders, we set the tone. If we make time to appreciate the world around us, we create a ripple effect, encouraging our teams to do the same. This helps combat burnout and fosters a more supportive, #empathetic workplace where people feel valued, heard, and #inspired.

How Engaging.io Lives This Culture Code

At Engaging.io, culture isn’t just an abstract concept—it’s the lifeblood of how we operate. Smell the Roses is a key part of what makes us successful because it emphasises balance and mindfulness as crucial elements of high performance. We encourage our employees to take breaks, meditate, or simply pause to appreciate something beautiful before diving into their workday. This practice isn’t just a “nice to have”—it’s an integral part of maintaining the energy and creativity that define our company’s identity.

Our commitment to this culture code is one of the many reasons our employees are happy, engaged, and loyal. It’s why we’ve cultivated a team that is not only dedicated but also energised and driven to deliver exceptional results for our clients.

At Engaging.io, our culture is our business, and “Smell the Roses” is just one example of how we empower our team to be their best selves, both in and out of the office.
