The Importance to Control - Blood Sugar Levels & Thyroid Issues

The thyroid gland located in the neck produces hormones that regulate a lot of biological processes in the human body, such as growth, development and metabolism.  Because it works on the metabolism can alter the blood sugar levels.

If the body is not able to control the blood sugar effectively can increase the risk of diabetes. Also, if your metabolism is under control it makes it harder to manage the blood glucose in case you already have diabetes.

Blood sugar is glucose, when the glucose enters the bloodstream signal to the pancreas to release insulin. The insulin will help blood sugar enter into the cell and produce energy. Excess or deficient insulin can induce changes in thyroid hormone production and activity.

Hypothyroidism will slow down the metabolism and then insulin can stay in the body longer. If insulin is not being released to control the blood sugar levels it can lead to a problem called hypoglycemia - means low glucose levels in the bloodstream.

Looking at the association from another direction, the metabolic changes of thyroid disease can interfere with the effects of insulin, whether endogenous produced by your body or taken as a medical treatment for diabetes.
