The Importance of Company Culture and Vision
As 2022 draws to a close, I’ve found myself reflecting on the past year, our team’s performance, and what sets us apart as a company. There’s a saying that I’ve always thought was applicable: “Culture eats strategy for lunch.” I see it time and time again — too many organizations have great lineups, but poor locker rooms (meaning that each member of the team is only playing for him or herself).?
At JLL, we’ve been picky about our company culture —?and it’s paying off in spades. We currently have a team of all-star executives in place, and we are getting ready to bring in even more. Having a front row seat to watch this all unfold has truly been an honor, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the Valuations Advisory team at JLL.?
So often, our competitors and others in the industry will talk about their technology or their business strategies as a differentiator. Rarely, however, do they talk about their organizational culture and how it sets them apart —?arguably, I would say, because they often know that they can’t back up the claims.?
Why is company culture and vision so important??
Company culture is more than a defined set of company values and creating a “fun” place to work. Instead, it is about how a company fosters growth by valuing and listening to their employees, while at the same time ensuring that organizational goals are being met and employee attitudes are healthy. A strong company culture drives the foundation for organizational growth, listening to employees and making adjustments when and where necessary.?
Company culture is vitally important, not only for the happiness and satisfaction of your employees, but also for the very stability of your business. Let’s take a closer look at some of the benefits of a solid company culture.?
Improved employee performance and morale
When a company’s vision and culture is clearly outlined, employees are more likely to act in accordance with the values the organization holds close. When your company culture is healthy, you can expect to see improved performance and commitment from its employees. Similarly, as the health of company culture improves, so does the morale and motivation of its employees. Employees want to feel as if their voices are heard and understood, so when they do, they are more likely to feel positively about where they work.?

Improved retention
Not surprisingly, when employees feel valued and listened to, they are less likely to look elsewhere for employment. In other words, when a company’s culture and vision is well-defined and solid, you can expect to see improved retention among its staff. This not only means a strong, tight-knit staff, but also helps to save on both the time and money required to bring on new hires.?
Recruitment
When done properly, your company’s culture should speak for itself when it comes to attracting the very best talent around. Word of a good company culture travels fast, and potential employees are often more likely to apply for roles at a company with a strong organizational culture.?
Of course, building your company culture is an investment, but it is always worth it. I like to use the example of our recent Summit gathering. We brought together almost 300 people to be in one place at one time.? During a few short days, we strengthened our culture together.? We also reinforced our basic tenets of interdependences, both in how we approach the market and approach each other. ? It was a smashing success, and I heard from many people, “We started that conference with a good culture, but we ended the conference with a great culture.”? Check out this video to hear more on what our people say about working here.
In our team, we are proud of the culture that we have built —?and we do it well. We make good group decisions, and we continue to add more diversity to our team, so that people can show up to work as their entire selves. This not only makes for happier employees, but it also makes the decision making process so much easier, with so many different points of view adding input and helping to shape decisions.?
At 仲量联行 , we truly value our employees and pride ourselves on offering something different in the market. If you have ever considered joining the JLL family, I’d love to talk. My door is always open.?
As always, thank you for reading! I would love to hear your thoughts. Please leave a comment or share to keep the conversation going.

2 年Hi Tony Lenamon - I love the client-focus you've brought to JLL and I know you're passionate about building a great culture, so it's great to read your thoughts on this topic. Simply put, for me culture is the way we do things around here! A good culture and a great boss creates stickability in the relationship - and employees will give back in spades.

2 年Great article Tony. We all bring something different and unique to our workplaces and I wish other companies paid more attention to what everyone, at any level, can contribute. You can always, always learn something new or see a different perspective and a supportive culture floats all boats!
