The Importance of Community

Launching our new book, Becoming Coachable, has been a marathon—and in some ways, my dear coauthors Jacquelyn Lane and Marshall Goldsmith and I viewed launch week as a pinnacle of sorts. Of course, we are going to be thrilled to spread the word about Becoming Coachable long after launch week. But it also feels both like reaching the finish line and a new beginning—like one chapter closing and another one starting. This feeling can be encapsulated by the words: We did it.?

As in life, launch week is only as good as the community that supports you and your work. And not only those who support you, but those who show up to support you, in any way they can. Whether a big gesture or a small note of encouragement, each act of support for us and Becoming Coachable has helped us make a splash with its publication. The early reception and feedback has been fantastic, and we’re thrilled to be sitting in the #1 bestseller spot in a few categories on Amazon. We are so grateful for all our believers and supporters.

Over the better part of a decade, a large, formative piece of my community has been the inspiring cohort of coaches and leaders that make up the 100 Coaches community and @100 Coaches Agency. Not only does this group include some of the greatest leadership and management thinkers of our time, it also includes some of the greatest people I have ever known. The heart of this community shines through each person and the way we lift each other up, and I could not have asked for a better group of people to lift up this book.?

This word—support—has been a throughline in the way Becoming Coachable came to be, as well. This text wouldn’t be as rich, comprehensive, thought-provoking, and insightful had we not been fortunate enough to have the generous contributions of fellow coaches, leaders, and friends. They lent their experiences and expertise to this book in the form of personal anecdotes and hard-earned wisdom.?
