Regardless of who you are, what you do, or what corner of the world you're in, there is one thing that remains true.
Humans are social creatures, which means we crave community.
You might find yourself looking for a community without realizing it.
Whether you're part of a religious group, a group of students, or a group of social activists ~ Community has Value.
Why is Community Important?
The very reason communities exist is because we - as humans - have this innate desire to belong to something.
We go through our lives proclaiming our religion, social class, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, career paths - whatever that may be. We belong to that group of people.
We divide ourselves in our careers - we make a decision to belong to that industry.
Through these communities, we find our sense of belonging.
Why do communities divide?
If the collective community is so important, why would we divide into so many smaller groups?
You may have heard the saying, "Find Your Tribe." Well, there's more than just a cliche in this saying.
Finding your people - the people who understand you, and the people that speak the same language, the people who laugh at the same things you laugh at - has value beyond description.
It's part of our human experience.
Finding your tribe means finding the ones that make you feel human, seen, and understood.
It's powerful.
How can Community Help Small Businesses?
According to HubSpot 's recent 2022 Consumer Trends Report, people are more likely to purchase from a company or brand that has an active community.
From a digital marketing perspective, this only makes sense.
A community surrounding a brand creates trust, social proof, and loyalty to that brand.
When you think about your marketing strategy, consider how much a community could contribute to your business.

Here are statistics surrounding the consumer trends on joining a community (Source - HubSpot 's 2022 Consumer Trends Report):
I would encourage you to consider what this indicates for your business. Even if you're a solopreneur, there is value in community.
So I challenge you to consider this question:
What kind of community could you develop to help drive your business to the next level?
Do you know of any impactful communities?
Here on LinkedIn, I'm immediately reminded of the #socialsaturdaysquad inspired by Victoria T. and her drive to connect people, far and wide.
Another great example would be the #hirethishuman initiative by Laurel Burns , helping job seekers get exposure across LinkedIn.
Lastly, a great freelance community is led by the #coconuts and fun times over at ??Mikko J.?? Rissanen?? 's #cocoverse.
Conclusion:
Having a community, building a community, or being involved in a community has a massive impact on the way we interact and view our world.
It impacts us on a social level, but it also impacts marketing strategies for small and large businesses. Community allows us to come together with a common goal - and achieve it together.
Community impacts the people that build them, and it impacts the people that join them.
