Leadership is like a guiding light, especially in today's complex world of organizations. It's become super important to develop leadership skills because organizations face all kinds of tough challenges.
Sometimes, even though leaders like me have had good education, it doesn't always prepare us for everything that comes our way. That's why there's a big need for more hands-on help to be better leaders.
In my own experience, I've both needed help from others and helped out myself. But even with all that, I still think that leadership often focuses too much on fixing problems. This can make everyone rely too much on leaders to solve everything.
Think about leaders like Abraham Lincoln, Nelson Mandela, and Martin Luther King, Jr. They were amazing because they showed qualities like humility, dedication, and empathy. Lincoln guided America through really tough times, Mandela fought for South Africa's freedom even when he was in prison for 30 years, and Martin Luther King, Jr. inspired people of all races with his powerful speeches.
Imagine if these qualities were in your organization! They could make a huge difference in how things work and how people feel.
What is a coaching mindset?
A coaching mindset embodies a fresh approach to leadership, prioritizing the empowerment of individuals and teams over mere directive commands. It entails posing impactful inquiries, engaging in active listening, and offering immediate assistance to aid employees in crafting solutions and realizing their potential.
For leaders, embracing a coaching mindset transcends mere directive giving; it entails investing time to grasp the unique needs and aspirations of each team member for their success.
This mindset enables leaders and their teams to cultivate trust, foster a collaborative atmosphere, hone superior communication abilities, and ultimately guide more efficient teams.

As a leader, you focus on helping each team member reach their personal goals while enhancing their skills. You offer support, listen attentively, and provide constructive feedback.

In my opinion, by following these two points, you can develop a coaching mindset:
1. Asking Thought-Provoking Questions:
Getting into a coaching mindset means asking really good questions that make your client think deeply and take action. These questions aren't narrow or judgmental; instead, they're broad and curious, tailored to your client's situation and goals. They help your client figure out what they really need and what drives them, all while challenging their assumptions and beliefs.
By asking these kinds of questions, you're helping your client come up with their own solutions and strategies.
2. Having a Growth Mindset:
Having a coaching mindset means believing that skills and abilities can be developed through effort and learning. This mindset is the opposite of thinking that talents are fixed and unchangeable.
Embracing a growth mindset helps you and your client stay positive and open to challenges, setbacks, and feedback as opportunities to learn and grow.

By showing this attitude, you inspire your client to do the same, giving them the courage to pursue their goals with determination and enthusiasm.
Lastly, being a coach also means practicing self-coaching, where you apply the same coaching principles to yourself. Self-coaching lets you reflect on your own performance, strengths, and areas where you can improve as a coach. It helps you face your own challenges, dreams, and needs, while also seeking advice and support from others.
Through self-coaching, you can enhance your coaching skills and abilities, demonstrating your commitment and reliability to your client.
