The importance of clocking small wins.

The importance of clocking small wins.

Road to unemployment

Day 0

Yesterday, I decided to do a 24-hour water fast. No particular reason (my girlfriend likes to tell me that I did it for religious reasons contributing to her good health and prosperity. I have no comments except 'no').

Currently, I'm about 31 hours into it. It's not an upcoming corporate lesson on 'underpromise, overdeliver'. I was asleep through about 20 hours of it all, including my naps. And it was fun, mostly.

I'm listening to an NPR tiny desk concert by Post Malone in the background right now. And I heard him say "I'm so fucking nervous right now".

It's a good reminder that we are all just as human as the person right next to us.

Our hearts beat faster sometimes. Time goes slower. Everything happens to us, and everything happens to them. Different everythings, but everything.

I did a...well, I decided to do a 24-hour fast yesterday out of nowhere. Dad was home over the weekend, which meant we ate, drank, and laughed a lot. Every day of quality time with family is such a gift, and I'm glad I have that.

When I decided to resign this time around, I had a few promises that I made to myself.

  • Be my most disciplined self, yet.
  • Be kind through the art of discipline.
  • Spend quality time with the people I love (and do it guilt-free).

And, gun for the small wins.

So, the fast was a reminder that if I put my mind to things, I can still do things. And this isn't a subjective thing, right? There's no manager who can come and say "I don't think there was measurable business impact". You either make it through 24 hours, or you don't. And if you don't, you can get up the next morning and try again.

Okay, so the fast in itself.

The good parts

  • Higher energy levels overall. Surprisingly high for someone who craves biryani every two hours.
  • Inflammation in my knee seems to have reduced significantly.
  • I had lots of free time.

The not-so-good parts

  • Sleep at night wasn't great. This may also have to do with the fact that I napped for 4 hours in the afternoon.
  • The was some light-headedness and discomfort here and there, but 80% of it was high-energy time.
  • I didn't know what to do with lots of free time.

I know there is nothing spectacular in here. I promise I'm aware of that much. But I guess that's the point. Not everything in life, not everything you create, has to be spectacular. All it has to be, is real. You don't have to win always, you just gotta try. You have to clock them small wins.

Leaving you with a Post Malone quote for now - I'm so fucking nervous right now.

Love,

Hari.
