I spent the weekend visiting my mother-in-law in Victoria Texas, a very conservative town in South Texas. It's only a couple of hours away from Austin geographically, but a whole universe away in political thoughts & action.
I enjoy spending time with Linda for many reasons, one of which is that she, like me, is what I call a 'compassionate intellectual' who lives with her heart and mind in balance. Although we might start out on opposite sides of an issue, we care enough about each other to gently press through to a shared middle path of understanding.
Over the last 11 years we have gotten to know & respect each other, even through the difficult passage of Keith's death 7 years ago when either of us could have chosen to take separate paths. What we did instead was choose to not only stay connected, but also to really embrace our time together looking through each other's lens on the world, talking out the differences and weaving a shared story of what's next.
We all have the opportunity to stay in our comfortable bubble, however, as the image on this post illustrates, bursting those bubbles can release thousands of additional connection points that enhance our experience. That's what's happened with me & Linda.
Here's to bursting bubbles and enjoying the effervescence that ensues!
