The Importance of Being Prepared in your Cloud Journey

Or... Azure Accidents and how to avoid them.

We all know about the importance of following established patterns and practices when adopting and maintaining your organisation's cloud journey, but did you know that there are also established anti-patterns to avoid?

If more organisations took heed of these anti-patterns from the outset, then many of the Azure pitfalls we see whilst working in the field could be avoided.

From the outset, make sure your organisation knows what it wants to achieve with a move to the cloud, define your goals, set your standards, establish good Governance.? These things can help strengthen your route to the cloud, providing a clear roadmap.

Additionally, be sure to involve the right business units within your organisation from the outset to ensure the cloud infrastructure and services you are implementing meet the needs of the whole organisation, and not just your IT department.? Too often we have seen organisations key platform decisions being driven by IT, not business requirements.

Rik Hepworth stood in a cloud with an Azure 'A' in his hand.

So many organisations make inaccurate assumptions about resiliency and availability of the cloud, particularly as these benefits are often a highlight of the Cloud Sales team's pitch.? The reality is that these are available, but not always by default, and often requiring additional costs and technical effort.??? Always be sure to plan from the outset based on what you need, ensuring your organisation gets the desired resiliency and uptime needed to maintain its cloud infrastructure effectively.

Microsoft has an interesting selection of Anti-Patterns that are worth reviewing, as you set off on your cloud journey.
