As professionals, we all want to build a strong personal brand that sets us apart from the competition and helps us achieve our career goals. But how do you go about doing that on LinkedIn? The answer is simple: by being authentic and active on the platform.
To be authentic, it means sharing your true self with your network. It means being honest about your experiences, your values, and your aspirations. It means not trying to be someone you're not, and not pretending to know everything. When you're authentic, people will connect with you on a deeper level, and they'll be more likely to trust and respect you.
I have openly posted about my failures, my struggles, and the challenges I have faced along the way in my career. Why? Because each of those experiences has helped shape the person (and professional) I am now. I don't want to hide from it - I want to learn from it. Maybe others will learn from it as well.
Being active means engaging with your network on a regular basis. It means sharing your thoughts and ideas, commenting on other people's posts, and participating in relevant discussions. When you're active, you'll stay top of mind with your network, and you'll be seen as a thought leader and expert in your field.
Active also means doing more than re-posting your company update or sharing someone else's posts without adding your own perspective. I can scroll through my LinkedIn every day and see names of people I haven't seen post in months suddenly pop up. Why? Because their company just published a new video or blog and they were asked to share it.
