The importance of acoustic comfort in drainage.

The importance of acoustic comfort in drainage.

Noise in buildings is considered to be detrimental to health and well-being. Why??In quiet rooms such as living rooms, bedrooms and offices it is generally accepted that noise levels related to the operation of the building should be no higher than 30 decibels (dB). Anything higher than this can become an annoyance and, worse still, can stop people from sleeping. When drainage passes behind walls, and little thought is given to acoustics, it can become very frustrating for users of the building.?Often the issue is structure-borne noise passing through the brackets holding the drainage pipe and then through the structure that the brackets are fixed to. The noise then enters the room adjacent to the pipework. So can this be avoided? Yes it can. By installing acoustic dampeners the majority of the noise is absorbed and no longer travels into the structure. During testing PAM Building has proven that noise levels are as low as 5 dB with 2 litres / second of water travelling through our cast iron drainage system and still only 11 dB when 4 litres / second of water is travelling through the system. Even if every resident in the upper floors decided to have a shower at the same time (separately of course) our testing shows that the structure-borne noise still wouldn't get near 30 dB. When 8 litres / second?of water travels through the system the structure-borne noise is still only 19 dB. Quiet enough to continue snoring in peace. Specify and install the best and hand over the project with peace of mind. Why compromise?
