Implement Positive Behaviour Reinforcement To Drive Engagement
EDClass Ltd
"EDClass operates as an alternative provider to support pupils who have difficulty in attending a physical school.”
Recently, there seems to have been a breakdown between schools, parents and students in terms of behaviour adherence. Why has this been the case? What support can we provide to all involved so educational experiences and outcomes can be the best they can be?
The school inspection handbook outlines how inspectors will gather and evaluate evidence about:
“how successfully leaders involve parents, carers and, as necessary, other professionals/specialist services in deciding how best to support pupils with SEND, including agreeing the approach to remote education.”?-?School inspection handbook?
Students with #SEND, behavioural or mental health challenges or any other issue need specific support that accommodates their needs. It’s important to involve parents as much as possible so they can engage with their child’s education. This can then help alleviate any barriers that may be hindering their child’s progress and effective lines of communication can be formed between teachers and schools. Initial dialogue can lead to building parents’ confidence that their child is being truly cared for and they are receiving high-quality education.??
Building trust and rapport to improve student behaviour
?
Getting parents on board can encourage them to become aligned with a school’s policies. Recently, parents have become reluctant to engage with their children’s education and the school’s ethos. Recent news has highlighted:
?
“headteachers said they were now seeing parents side with their child in defiance of the school, while others organise and take to social media to challenge school decisions.”–?The Guardian
?
Make sure to encourage regular meetings about their child’s well-being and education. The personal development of students should always be a massive focus and this can allow the next best steps to be generated.
?
We must highlight that a student is behaving in a certain way because of something in particular. Anxiety, EBSA and other mental health challenges have an impact on behaviour and there have also been students who are reluctant to attend schools and learn from home. The Guardian reported:

“Up to 180,000 children were estimated to have been home-schooled in 2023”–?The Guardian
?
When students are being home-schooled there still needs to be an assurance they are obtaining high-quality education. Could remote learning and a hybrid approach be beneficial for students who exhibit poor behaviour? All options should be explored, so find the best solution that fits all involved.?
