Imperfection is Perfection in 2025

Hey ChangeMaker,

I hope you have been having a wonderful holiday so far, where you can reflect on how helpful imperfection can be in getting you "unstuck." As we count to 2025, I want to ask you one question: what is one "imperfect lesson" that has helped you move forward - it could be anything.? ?

While aiming for excellence is admirable, striving for perfection often results in stalled progress, missed opportunities, and burnout. At ChangeMaker Collective, we champion a different approach that reframes imperfection as an essential component of entrepreneurial growth. Let’s explore how embracing imperfection can accelerate your business success, enhance your digital marketing efforts, and foster authentic connections with your audience.

Imperfection Drives Execution and Scalability

  • Perfectionism can be the enemy of scalability. How often have you delayed launching a product or campaign because it wasn’t “just right”?

In the digital business landscape, speed matters. A minimum viable product (MVP) approach—where you release a basic version of your offering to test its reception—can help you gather real-world data quickly. Imperfections at this stage are not failures; they’re opportunities for optimization. For example, many successful entrepreneurs leverage A/B testing in their digital marketing strategies. By experimenting with different versions of an email campaign, landing page, or ad, you can determine what resonates most with your audience and refine your strategy based on analytics. ? Pro Tip: Prioritize progress over perfection, and let your audience guide your iterative improvements. ?

Authenticity Enhances Brand Loyalty

Sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses, lessons from failures, or how your business overcame a challenge can humanize your brand. This type of storytelling builds trust and fosters emotional engagement, turning customers into advocates. Authenticity also enhances customer retention. A transparent approach creates a two-way relationship where clients feel valued, heard, and connected to your mission. ?

Key Insight: Imperfections in your brand story make you relatable and memorable, which is invaluable in building long-term customer loyalty. ?

Imperfection Sparks Innovation in Business Models

Disruption often comes from those willing to challenge the status quo, experiment with untested ideas, and embrace the risk of failure. Imperfection is at the heart of innovation. Publishing an imperfect blog post optimized for trending keywords and analyzing its performance can provide more actionable insights than waiting weeks to perfect it. Imperfection enables agility, which is critical for staying relevant in today’s fast-changing digital landscape. ? Remember: Every "failure" in your marketing or product development is a stepping stone to finding a better solution. ?

Key Strategies for Entrepreneurs Embracing Imperfection

  • Launch and Iterate: Use the MVP approach to test ideas, gather data, and refine your offerings based on real customer feedback.
  • Measure and Optimize: Leverage digital marketing tools like Google Analytics, social media insights, and SEO metrics to analyze performance and adapt your strategies.
  • Collaborate and Outsource: You don’t have to do it all. Partner with freelancers, agencies, or collaborators who excel in areas outside your expertise to fill gaps efficiently.
  • Celebrate Micro-Wins: Recognize small victories in your entrepreneurial journey—they build momentum and keep you motivated.

Authenticity and purpose are no longer optional—they’re essential. Nowhere is this more evident than in the beauty industry, where innovation is no longer confined to product formulations but extends to how businesses impact communities and the planet. At the intersection of this revolution is Jenn Harper CEO of Cheekbone Beauty a trailblazing Indigenous-owned brand that’s redefining what it means to lead with purpose.

Cheekbone Beauty is the first Indigenous cosmetics company in Canada. The business has created unique,?high-quality, and?cruelty-free?beauty products. Their products are sold in stores across North America, including Sephora and JCPenney.?Explore locations here.

We are all works in progress, and progress over perfection any day! There will always be setbacks or tough things that happen in our journey of life, it's how we respond to it that will make the difference. Thanks for sharing! ?? p.s. I'MPerfect.

Woo hoo Leigh Mitchell a fun challenge to start off the New Year. I think a focus on progress and responsiveness is a better approach for 2025 - given the rate of change facing the world these days. From a responsiveness perspective, one lesson I'm taking away from 2024 is to invest more time in health and wellness in 2025. My lived experience is that I perform better with more sleep, daily exercise, and eating smaller amounts at more regular intervals. Recently, I've stepped up my weight training regimen, lost a few pounds and overall am feeling like I am starting 2025 with more positive energy. Looking ahead, my focus is on feeling strong and positive for the challenges life will continue to put in front of us. Happy New Year.

One imperfect lesson I’ve learned this year is that there is no such thing as failure, because you don't know what you don't know. It's first attempt at learning and trusting the process.

Happy New Year ?? For me, last year was all about pushing my limits and staying out of my comfort zone. I am a creature of habits ?? but I can say that I already enjoy every new experience and opportunity that come into my way.
