Our young people are proud to be Nigerian, but they can’t understand why we are still where we are.?

Even though this does not capture the entirety of their concerns, I am highlighting here twelve unfiltered concerns based on my conversations with young people....

Note: Please permit me use my platform to express the thoughts of young people the way they feel it, say it and understand it ....unfiltered.........

  1. How can we uplift Nigeria from the epithet of “the poverty capital of the world” when Nigeria’s minimum wage already means millions live on less than $2 a day??
  2. Government economic figures of growth statistics must stop being mere figures only and start measuring how the economy impacts the lay man on the street??How are the urban and rural poor faring??The actual state of the livelihoods of the average citizen should be our scorecard/benchmark.
  3. Can we ever stop going to bed hungry while we leave so much arable land empty?
  4. Lasting and permanent solutions must attend the same perennial issues (e.g. power shortage, flooding, droughts, bad roads, poor education outcomes, poor healthcare, insecurity, food insecurity, etc.) ... These issues have been occurring since most youths were born.?
  5. Can we ensure children are in school and are learning; stop incessant strikes in our universities so we can be globally competitive??Let us all count 20 million out loud???Yes!! Nigeria has 20 million out-of-school children??A time bomb waiting to explode as we toy with the next generation!?Let us focus on interventions in our education system that will make Nigerian youths globally competitive.
  6. Can our government refineries just work at optimal capacity???If the old ones cannot be salvaged, build new ones.?This is not rocket science.??Oil and gas conversations are so old.??Countries without oil and gas, are thriving because they developed the human capital of their youths.??Nigeria must do the same.
  7. Nigerian airports welcoming the world into our country must be decent and represent who we are? Our airports combine disappointments in both infrastructure and service.
  8. Nigerian youths plead for a working national carrier? Poorer countries can boast of national carriers, even if they only have 2 air-crafts in their fleet.
  9. Government should lead by example and stop playing lip service to local consumption of made-in-Nigeria goods and services.
  10. Corruption kills a country so please let us end the ridiculous “snakes swallowing money” stories.?Youths may be young they are not stupid… Let our judicial system work.??Without the rule of law, economic growth cannot be achieved.??With corruption... investment, jobs and wealth creation is impossible.
  11. The truth is that child marriage is shameful???It will never be acceptable for a grandfather to marry a 10 year old girl and let her have children? This is just cruel, mean and wicked.?
  12. Can you help us all become students of history so we can understand and be rooted in who we are ......?We are all NIGERIANS…..?

The above are some of the young people's concerns to the new government as they seek ongoing dialogue......
