Impairments affecting the OSNR

In this article we will have a overview of the impairments affecting the Optical Signal to Noise ratio.

We can have the following impairments during the optical fiber communication :-

-PMD (polarization mode dispersion)----please refer previous articles

-PDL(Polarization depended losses )----please refer previous articles

-Cross talk induced impairment (induced due to four wave mixing and high reflections)

-Mux/Demux/WSS induced impairments (induced due to imperfect filter shapes)

-Non linearities

-SRS tilt (stimulated raman scattering tilt)--Please refer previous article
