Did you know that your emotions can have a tremendous impact on the level of pain you experience?
?
Besides actual physical pain caused by injury or sudden neurological condition, it is also possible for pain in the body to manifest due to emotional or psychological factors rather than actual physical injury or damage. This ‘psychogenic pain’ is real and can be just as debilitating as physical pain.
?
What is psychogenic pain?
?
Sometimes, when we experience intense emotions such as stress, anxiety, or trauma, our bodies can respond by creating physical sensations, including pain. This pain is very real, even though it doesn't stem from a physical injury.
?
In psychodynamic therapy, we explore the connection between your emotions and your physical symptoms. By understanding the underlying emotional wounding that may be contributing to your pain, we can work together to address and heal both the emotional and physical aspects of your discomfort.
?
It is possible to manage the pain more effectively, so that you can sleep better and get on with living your life.
?
Here are some steps we may take together psycho-dynamically to heal the psychogenic pain you are experiencing:
?
Exploration:
We'll work together to explore the emotions and experiences that may be contributing to your pain. This could involve discussing past traumas, current stressors, or unresolved feelings.
?
Understanding:
By understanding the connection between your emotions and your physical symptoms, you can begin to recognize how your body responds to different emotional states.
?
Processing:
Using psychodynamic therapy, you'll have the opportunity to process and work through difficult emotions in a safe and supportive environment.
?
Coping strategies:
We'll develop coping strategies to help you manage both your emotional and physical symptoms. This might include relaxation techniques, mindfulness exercises, or stress-reduction strategies. As you learn to relax, your body releases tension. This in turn soothes the mind and eases the sensations of pain.

A proactive step forward to manage both physical and emotional pain in your body
?
If just now you feel trapped, overwhelmed and overpowered by pain and you feel frustrated with your body’s inability to function properly...
?
Then I’d like to share with you a pragmatic way forward that allows you to learn ways to ease the symptoms of chronic pain by tapping into the power of your thoughts, using a concept called Anodyne Awareness? ?(The trademark is registered to John Pateros in the United States.)
?
Anodyne Awareness? is a set of conscious breathing and guided imagery techniques combined with hypnotic suggestion.? It is used to manage sensations of pain, to ease tension and quell anxiety. It can also influence blood pressure and gut peristalsis.

The method tends to help whether the pain is dull and constant or acute and stabling, or even if it’s moving around your body.
?
As you actively listen, in this 40-minute recording I walk you through step-by-step how to use your breath to help you to relax, and teach you how to direct your focus so that it becomes possible for you to alter the way your mind holds the perception of the pain you experience.
