Impact of virtual reality and immersive experiences

Ethical challenges of AR(Augmented Reality) and VR(Virtual Reality) development

The AR/VR development have ethical challenges and a social debt, next I go to show which for me are the most important:

User protection: This is very important, because in a VR experience user have no vision of real would and developers have to be careful to make to user perform dangerous movements that can hurt himself or another people.

VR as a torture: Subjecting someone to use virtual reality against their will to expose them to painful and unpleasant experiences is a crime to be against.

User privacy: People have the right to privacy and no application can infringe that, we have to protect their privacy and integrity making sure their data treatment.

VR and immersive experiences have a very important impact for humanity in many fields like medicine, technology, entertainment, marketing and more that is the reason because we approach ethical and health topics, VR and immersive experiences are growing at bleakest speed and there are here to stay and is the companies and developers work in safe, healthy, ethical and legal ways to make VR and immersive experiences, about that is this article.

Legal VR aspects

The most important legal aspects in VR topic is about physical health, psychologist health and privacy policies, next I go to talk a little more specific in each topic.

Physical health: As previously I has been mentioned when a VR experiences does not take into account factors such as user movements and environment can make the VR experience in a dangerous situation, users can be hurt with dangerous objects and hurt another people, another factor that can deteriorate users health is their head movement, developers and experience designers have to be very careful and avoid experiences when users have to move their head very abrupt or move their body in a contorted way.

Psychologist health: Psychologist heath in VR immersive experiences is a very important aspect to take in account for VR immersive experience companies and developers, that can be understood under ethical and legal aspects, VR immersive experience bad implementations can get psychologist risks and injuries for users and people around their, in new connected world there are all kind of people is our virtual society some of that people can be malicious and can make us damage, we have to be careful for myself and our dear beings and protect them of virtual world malicious people.

pornography content is another factor that can deteriorate people mental health specially for more young and vulnerable people, VR environments can be very difficult to protect and ensure to malicious people with unpleasant content who can hurt our mental health.

without a doubt other impressive aspect about mental health is the social isolation that can be very serious is a most of the cases and do not be underrated, people who have VR immersive experience when all their environments are fanciful can get reality perception issues that can provoke body heath issues too to get a unhealthy life style, that is the reason because people have no be over exposed to VR immersive experiences.

Including ethical in the design

Now industry is implementing a very interesting concept called "anticipatory technology ethics" that mean that use studies and investigations to improve and preview social behaviors to detects future problems and work in them to minimize, obvious this is a hard task and is need experimentation to get good results.

Need for investigation

The VR immersive experiences ethics investigation is far to be completed and in this moment is focused in individual issues like exposition to harmful content like blood or violence. While these dilemmas are important, many other subtler ethical issues relating to virtual reality demand the attention of designers, scientists, engineers, and related communities. Designers, programmers, and testers usually focus on specific areas, yet they could be involved in contributing to solutions to ethical issues, or they could be responsible for inputting ethical concerns. Frequently, designers must make decisions based on the lens of their knowledge and experiences. But designers’ scope of knowledge does not always encompass the wide range of areas that might impact the public related to physiological, social, or ethical aspects.

Now VR immersive experiences are so new and current users have the task to be a tester, that is a thing can be enthusiasm much people but let feel worried to another one.

Risks for children

Studies reveal that children are vulnerable users for VR immersive experiences and for them is easier to confuse what is real and what not is and children who usually use VR immersive experience without correct supervision are prone to confuse real avatars with real people.

Not all bad

There are “dangers” with anything – however, we must not forget the huge benefits of combining VR with games, in education, rehabilitation, training, and of course, entertainment. Very good implemented VR immersive experience can help the humanity to give the follow step in evolution and make a very good society, this is a new way to get information and interact like in a time was the radio, TV, phones, internet and now mixed reality.

Acknowledge

This article was inspired by my career and academy, I did want a short descripcion about impact in society and give a idea about VR immersive experiences challenges, risks but evolution hope and new life perceptive, thanks for your attention.
