The Impact of Thankfulness

Starting tomorrow most Americans will celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.

For many, this will include a meal with family and friends, watching some football, and reconnecting with loved ones.

It is also a day when we are to remember the blessings and goodness that we have received. It is a time to give thanks, hence the name, for all that we have.

And, if you are reading this newsletter there is a high likelihood that you have more than most.

I love Thanksgiving!

It has always been a great day for our family and this Thanksgiving will be no different. We are spending it with Susanne's parents and our daughter who flew in to celebrate with us. Unfortunately, my three boys and daughter-in-law are not able to make it, but we will connect with them during the day.

As this day has approached, like many others, I have been drawn to thinking of the many reasons I have to be thankful. And they are plentiful.

However, as I was getting ready this morning I was thinking about what would change in our lives if every day we gave time to give thanks?

What would our lives, our marriages, relationships with our kids, jobs, health, mental stability, and emotional lives look like if each and every day we made a point of giving thanks and expressing our gratitude for all of the many blessings we have around us?

Even more, what would our lives look like if we communicated that thankfulness to those who are closest to us?

My guess is that it would impact us greatly, in the best of ways.

I know this to be true because I have done it and encourage my coaching clients to do it. The impact it has made on their lives and the lives of those around them is incredible and something that is a game changer.

We live in a world that is seemingly full of bad news, unable to have civil discourse, isolated, and in many ways has us disconnected from meaningful community. Maybe, just maybe we can find our way back by starting with grateful and thankful hearts.

May it be so on this Thanksgiving holiday.

On the journey with you,
