Impact Study Mental Health First Aid Training with New Leaf

We have now trained 211 Mental Health First Aiders. We decided in the Autumn to invite them to be part of our impact study. 66 participants responded to the survey with a 100% completion of questions.

We are very pleased to report that 91% reported the training having an overall positive workplace impact.

64% now have a workplace wellbeing strategy. This is something we encourage as part of the training.

41% of senior staff are now sharing their personal mental health experiences more freely. We are not wanting leaders vulnerability to be the basis for an organisations wellbeing policy what we are encouraging a culture of openness.

It was heartwarming to see that 73% experiencing a change in workplace culture with more understanding towards mental health related employee absence. Most participants were unsure if a pattern of absence had changed.

We asked about supervision / appraisals and 42% reported that mental health element was now included. We would like this figure to be much higher so plan to place more of an emphasis on this in 2021.

59% reported they found their new skills learnt on the training beneficial in the workplace with participants citing specific changes including a wellness room, recruiting a wellbeing officer and developing mental health policies with 33% signing the Mindful Employer charter.

Participants have cited specific changes in mindset and a reduction of stigma allowing employees to feel more comfortable to talk about their mental health and a greater staff awareness with 59% planning wellbeing events for next year.
