?? The UK's new legislative agenda aims to stimulate economic growth and address climate change by improving infrastructure and creating jobs. This agenda includes launching a publicly owned clean energy company to foster renewable energy investments and substantial social and educational reforms. These policies are designed to enhance living standards, fortify the country’s defence capabilities, and strengthen international relations, reflecting a broad governmental effort to support sustainable development and economic resilience.
?? 联合利华 have implemented measures to ensure greater traceability in their palm oil supply chain, with 97.5% of their key crops independently verified as deforestation-free. They utilise satellite data and blockchain technology to monitor 20 million hectares and have mapped 36,000 smallholder farmers to improve data accuracy and transparency. These initiatives are part of their efforts to provide more detailed reporting and management of their agricultural sources.
??PUMA have committed to the Deforestation-Free Call to Action for Leather, a collaboration with Textile Exchange and the Leather Working Group, focusing on creating deforestation-free leather supply chains. This commitment aims to protect ecosystems, preserve biodiversity, and uphold human rights by preventing the negative environmental impacts associated with leather production. By adhering to stringent sourcing standards, PUMA ensure their leather comes from certified tanneries, maintaining environmental accountability and supporting their broader sustainability goals.
?? Consumer group Which? have ranked Wahaca as the UK's most sustainable restaurant chain in their first sustainability analysis of the hospitality sector. The evaluation covered emission reductions, waste and plastic management, resource management, and sourcing policies among 22 responding chains. Wahaca topped the list with an 84% score, praised for their effective sourcing and transparency, including listing carbon emissions on menus. Other chains like Nando's UK & IRE and Frankie & Benny's also performed well, receiving Which?’s Eco Provider endorsement. In contrast, Greggs and KFC were at the bottom, scoring only 38% due to poor transparency and sustainability practices.
?? John Lewis & Partners have introduced a trial repair service in selected stores in collaboration with Johnsons, part of the Timpson Group . This initiative offers customers the opportunity to extend the life of their garments and home items through repairs, alterations, and cleaning, regardless of the brand. These services align with the brands' commitment to sustainability, aiming to reduce environmental impact by promoting a circular economy. The trial will help John Lewis understand shopper preferences and needs in maintaining their items, contributing to a more sustainable consumption model.
