Is your pastor satisfied with your church's outreach? Their answer might surprise you!
In his recent podcast episode, "Church Trends 2025: Gen Z is in Revival and Retreat, Evangelism is on Life Support, and More," Carey Nieuwhof discusses five significant trends impacting churches in 2025. Number two caught my attention: Evangelism is on Life Support in Most Churches.
Here are Carey Nieuwhof's five Church Trends 2025.
Number two (#2) on the list suggests that only 1% of pastors feel their churches are effective in outreach.
In reading about what churches are doing to prepare their people for meaningful conversations, I read on the website of Global City Missions that in America today, only 4-5% of church growth is through evangelism. I invited the founder of Global City Mission Jared Looney to share about Global City Mission's church-equipping training on my Unconventional Ministry Podcast.

Conversational evangelism is crucial because it fosters genuine, relational, and meaningful discussions about faith rather than relying on scripted presentations or impersonal methods.
In a culture increasingly skeptical of institutional religion, people are likelier to engage with the gospel through personal interactions where they feel heard, valued, and respected. Jesus Himself was often involved in conversations—such as with the Samaritan woman at the well (John 4) or Nicodemus (John 3)—allowing space for questions, doubts, and personal reflection. By using conversation, believers can share their faith in a natural, responsive way tailored to the unique experiences of each person they encounter.
Conversational evangelism is crucial because it aligns with how most people process information and make decisions today. Instead of responding to a one-time gospel presentation, many people gradually come to faith through ongoing discussions addressing their specific concerns, objections, and spiritual hunger. This approach allows for deeper discipleship, moving beyond merely "winning converts" to nurturing long-term faith commitments. By listening well, asking thoughtful questions, and sharing personal testimonies, Christians can create an environment where the Holy Spirit can work in the hearts of seekers, leading them toward a genuine relationship with Christ.
Global City Mission wants to partner with you by helping equip your church with meaningful conversations. Any local church's most significant potential is to mobilize its members as gospel ambassadors in everyday encounters.
Global City Mission equips churches for conversational evangelism through interactive training that makes conversations accessible and relational. Their workshops help members develop practical skills to engage in new friendships and apply what they learn in their communities. By providing a clear framework, GCMI empowers believers to become disciple-makers and impact their cities.
