The Impact of Hiring Veterans – October 2024

Hiring continued to occur to begin the last quarter of 2024, but did not meet expert expectations. To remain agile amid persistently shifting conditions, many business leaders sought contingent workers to help meet their evolving needs. This strategy allows organizations to adapt while maintaining or scaling up operations. By leveraging its network and expertise, Rose International continued matching job seekers with the right opportunities for them. During dynamic job market conditions, the Rose International Team helps individuals find work while also helping organizations meet their workforce needs.

As part of its commitment to assisting job seekers, Rose International knows the positive impact of hiring veterans. The Rose International Team wishes service members a happy Veterans Day by thanking them and their families for their service.

Rose International understands the importance of supporting military members during their active service and post-service careers, including assistance provided through its military-focused hiring initiative, Deployment to Employment (D2E).

Slower Job Growth

Employment increased by 12,000 in October 2024, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), less than the average monthly gain of 194,000 jobs. The month-over-month job growth was lower compared to the 100,000 Dow Jones projected.

The BLS reported the national unemployment rate remained at 4.1% in October. The October 2024 jobs report noted labor strikes and hurricanes as temporary factors impacting employment levels.

As organizations adjust workforce strategies to meet evolving market conditions, many integrate a contingent workforce into their operations. Rose International saw continued demand for temporary workers and had the most job openings in the IT, business professional and admin/clerical categories.

Honoring Veterans with Jobs

As of 2023, there were 17.9 million U.S. veterans. The national unemployment rate for veterans increased from 2.8% in September 2024 to 3% in October 2024. According to the BLS veterans’ employment situation report, the yearly veteran unemployment rate was 2.8% in 2022 and 2023. After their military careers end, many veterans look for post-service jobs. While national veteran employment improved in previous years, more effort is needed to connect service members with fulfilling work.

Job seekers with military backgrounds often face challenges during their post-service careers, including:

  • Translating military experience
  • Creating a resume
  • Identifying transferable skills
  • Creating a job search strategy
  • Preparing for interviews

Supporting service members requires an understanding of military backgrounds and a committed approach to help these job seekers. The Rose International Team is honored to serve those who have served.
