The Impact of Having the Right Team

I was having a conversation with a Senior Leader last week about some changes to his team over the past 12 months which provided some really interesting observations.

One of his comments really stood out. “I don’t think I realised a year ago how much of an impact having the right team in place would make.”

It wasn’t that his team was necessarily filled with underperforming people a year ago but probably would be described as average performers.

What was the impact of this? Deadlines missed and ultimately more work taken on by this Senior Leader to try and deliver against the business goals. This resulted in him being more stressed and often taking extra work home to try and get it delivered.

Fast forward twelve months later and with the right team in place. His comment to me was that everything is just seamless now. The team is performing better and meeting deadlines which means less work for him and certainly less stress.

The lesson for us all? Surrounding yourself with the right people can have such a massive impact on not only delivering on the business goals but also on us as leaders personally. Less work and less stress means happier and more fulfilled leaders. In turn, this will lead to having more impactful leadership on their teams to further increase output and productivity.
