Dear reader,
One of the sweetest souls I met on a project kept in touch despite the fact that I was no longer on that project.
In fact, sometimes this person shares with me opportunities available in the UK that matches my skill set. The first time it happened, I was mesmerised by the effort, that it got me thinking -
"you truly never know the impact your smile, demeanour or otherwise is having on others".
Within the humanitarian space, it can be overwhelming to meet up with several obligations and still have a genuine interest in the people. Trust me, I've been there.
You almost just fall into this never-ending cycle of requests, proposals, authorisation, approval and reports and somewhere along the line, your ‘why’ gets lost.
In the midst of it all, it is important to keep head above water and show the people that you genuinely care and here are few things to help you with that:
?? 1. Smile - Always make a deliberate effort to smile. Whether with beneficiaries or partners, smile. It never hurts
?? 2. Remember your why - for me it is creating an environment that enables people and initiatives to thrive so, no matter the day, the people are my priority
?? 3. Take breaks - if you work in conflict like I do, then you know it's overwhelming. So, take breaks. It might be 10mins of focusing on something else - it helps.

?? 4. Be friendly with colleagues - there is nothing as relaxing as working with people you get along with and getting along isn't rocket science, it starts by being friendly.
?? 5. Aim to leave an impression - I ask myself always, what feeling do I want this person to leave with, whether colleagues, clients or vendors. I want you to meet me and feel like your day got better.
Bonus advise: People always assume motive without you words, be sure your demeanour communicates your true motive!
Those are my tips, share yours with me in the comment section and the impact it has had. ??
Your buddy,
