Planting trees out of the box
Renowned Brazilian skydiver Luigi Cani recently leaped from an aircraft over a deforested part of the Amazon rainforest, releasing 100 million seeds from 27 tree species. This daring mission took five years of preparation, including building a biodegradable seed container. Despite challenges like failed test runs and personal injuries, Cani successfully dropped the seeds at the right altitude. These seeds boast a remarkable 95%+ germination rate and can grow into trees as tall as 50 meters. Satellite monitoring will reveal the full impact in about two years. Cani's adventurous spirit now drives him to tackle issues like ocean plastic, using his feats for a greater purpose. We truly applaud this kind of spirited action! We’ve put it in our WAIC library of Projects of Hope, we have around 1000 of great examples by now.

Zero-Problem Philanthropy
Social problems are like Hydra heads: cut one off, and more appear. This is the frustrating reality that organizations in the philanthropic sector face every day. This This thought-provoking article introduces "Zero-Problem Philanthropy," a visionary concept that shifts the focus from solving individual problems to creating healthy contexts that prevent issues from arising. We see this approach as well in the systemic impact investing approach, root cause thinking and the awareness of interconnectedness of issues and solutions.

Plastic air pollution
Microplastics have been found everywhere, from the oceans’ dephts to the Antarctic ice, and now research had detected it in an alarming new location: clouds hanging atop two Japanese mountains. We know water filtration solutions but not enough solutions exist yet. If you discover one we are eager to learn, the forever chemicals is on our mind. We look for solutions curing our bodies, air and soil from this kind of ?forever chemicals. This is a neglected issue, and therefore relevant for impact investors looking for additionality. Do you see the link with the article on context? Yes, it’s all interlinked.
Context is relevant in topics healthy bodies and societies, if you want to learn more about context reach out to [email protected]. And context is kind in leadership as well, Bieke can take you through this reflection.
Climate crisis as a tool against burnout
The numbers surrounding burnout and depression are spiking. According to professor of clinical psychology and psychotherapy Paul Verhaeghe, people don't fail due to a lack of resilience or perseverance, but due to the permanent stress imposed on them by the relentless rat race. Read his views on how the climate crisis can provide a solution here.

The world according to Sharp
In recent weeks, the A12 has been the front line of the Dutch climate struggle, due to the blockades of Extinction Rebellion. This campaign to end fossil subsidies follows Gene Sharp. Sharp is the developer of a theory of how social change can come about through non-violent action. There are proven methods in social change. We love this topic, but Peter is probably the best to talk to, he is working for Strategies and Leaders.
Da Vinci’s rule of the trees
Sometimes, it's nice to revisit a classic. This article serves as a reminder of Da Vinci's Rule of the Trees, showcasing his immense curiosity and profound appreciation for the patterns and symmetry in nature's design. In this rule, Da Vinci observed that the branching patterns of trees share a mathematical harmony, asserting that "all the branches of a tree, at every stage of its height, are equal in thickness to the trunk when combined." While recent studies have challenged this notion, the Rule of Trees continues to inspire us with the endless wonders of the natural world.
