The Covid-19 pandemic is devastating the United States, both in terms of the number of fatalities and the rate of mortality. The economic effect of the pandemic is also very severe, as the IMF predicts a decrease of 4.3% in real GDP for the US in 2020. Around 8 million people have been plunged into poverty as a result of the slump.
Despite the dire circumstances, the people of the United States have responded with altruism by mobilizing their resources to fight the worst effects of Covid-19. In a recent study, it was estimated that more than a third (32%) of all households in the country had given charitably during the first months of the pandemic, with an average donation of $347.
