Impact Of COVID-19 In My Everyday Life
Over the past months, we got caged into this global pandemic- Coronavirus. Initially, it didn’t catch my attention due to the monotonous routine and work. As a person who lived on the other side of the world from where it was happening, I felt terrible about the lives that were being lost. Also, the challenges people faced to survive were disturbing but till that time I wasn’t concerned for my safety. But not too much time passed until the first covid case was announced in Delhi, my city.
And that’s how it all began, a new phase with fear and concern for our loved ones. Later, we all got caged indoors, while the environment began to heal. And we all noticed a huge shift in our lifestyle and the way we used to live. Living in a society where we all are fond of socializing, but got forbidden from it. Whether you’ve realized it or not, there have been so many changes in our daily life, that would never happen earlier. In March, we were notified by the news channels that everything will be closed until a later date. Just like those changes started to take place and fear grew larger, here’s how Covid-19 has changed my daily life!
I greet from far
Earlier, the greetings were in the forms of handshakes, high-fives, hugs! And had some sort of physical touch. But in post-corona days, I was switching to verbal greetings, and then our traditional “Namaste” came into trend. Moreover, people were more into finding new ways of greeting each other just to keep both sides safe and secure. So, you too Namaste! After all, social distancing is a must.
I am working from home more
The moment I got into the corporate world, I got a new challenge that is to work from home. It was quite fascinating but was confusing too, would I be able to become productive or not. Hence, one of the major changes I’ve seen was this. Even for students, online classes, virtual meet-ups became the new normal.
The global pandemic let people get immense exposure to technology and gave a new way to work without losing productivity. But unfortunately, there were a few industries that got highly affected and faced a major loss, job loss, and more. And surprisingly, some companies have decided to continue work from home for their employees even after and considered safety over anything.
I am stocking up stuff that I don’t buy usually
Seriously, I was purchasing supplies that I don’t normally wouldn’t purchase. The two most popular? Masks and sanitizers, as it was going out of stock!
Jokes apart, hygiene and sanitization were being followed seriously by people all over the globe. Face masks played a significant role in those who are infected and need assistance, and for others to protect themselves. Also, sanitization is a must after every little visit outside.
Experts recommended keeping a check on symptoms like fever, cold, and sneezing. Hence, it is crucial to stay healthy and make a better immune system. And we all became the quick doctor at our homes.
The shopping list changed!
During the pre-corona days, shopping was all about fun and filling up your bags with dresses, accessories and favorite snacks, and much more!
But later, new scenes were quite common in front of the stores. Long queues with markings on the ground, people standing and waiting for their turn to purchase. Some days, things get out of stock till the time you reach the store. To be honest, we all realized the importance of staples and how survival would be tough without them. Normally we spend a lot on unnecessary things but at last what gave us support is some assurance, a safe home, with staple food.
Every day was like a weekend
Earlier, we all used to wait for the weekend after a long week of working, TGIF events were hosted everywhere. Due to the lockdown, we all were caged into our homes, and thus every day became a weekend. I got indulged in multiple household errands like cleaning, cooking, and had a new task every single day. And thus, we got a new skill-set and became good at washing dishes and a lot of other improvements.
Home became a new restaurant!
From eating on your favorite local street food stall to grabbing a coffee on your way to work, we have now changed our home into a new restaurant. We all got into severe cravings that finally started experimenting with food and every day a new recipe was cooking back into the kitchen. As outside food wasn’t safe and not available too. With this, people were able to save a lot of money that was spent on dining out. And finally falling for homemade food.
Had Virtual hangouts with friends!
Whether it’s a global pandemic or anything else one thing remains constant that is spending time with your friends. It’s just with covid-19 the way of meet-ups got changed but still the love, fun, and bond remained the same. From hanging out in cafes, watching movies in theatres to video calls over skype and zoom made it all the fun alive like before.
Had clean air after a long time!
You all are aware of the increasing rate of pollution level and diminishing AQI (Air Quality Index) level in Delhi, NCR. But global pandemic made one thing better, that is it decreased the pollution level. People inside their homes, no vehicles on roads made us all breathe the clean air from the past few months. Nature had its days of getting healed without any human intervention.
These were some of the changes I underwent during these months and are still practicing. This pandemic will stay a permanent mark of learning in all our lives. And we are all going to miss a living room filled with loved ones spending a long vacation and doing work at the same time.
