The impact of Covid 19 on group facilitation

The impact of Covid 19 on group facilitation

As of the last few days the impact of the corona virus has become unavoidable real. In my own world it has meant that most of my work has been put on ice. Just in the last couple of days I have seen almost all of my group workshops postponed until further notice, a situation that has forced me to consider how I need to adapt to the current reality. It is will this in mind that I have quickly responded with the following options for my current and prospective clients:

1)  I use Zoom as a conferencing technology and online coaching tool. It is highly effective and can easily provide a highly effective platform for small group workshops and one on one coaching

2)  I am providing coaching sessions to people who are battling to deal with the current situation, and I am aiding individuals and organizations in dealing with the anxiety / stress related aspects caused by the Corona lock down that is happening. My work as a recovery coach for the past 4 years has taught me how to help people deal with uncertainty and personal stability in the most difficult times, which makes this a useful coaching process in these times now.

3)  I have spent years developing my skills as a content producer and I have often wondered when all this work would come to fruition. Now seems to be the time in which the ability to produce compelling online content is going to be much needed. I design and write learning experiences, create learner and facilitator manuals, and also copy to describe all kinds of documents and proposals.

4)  We have already been in touch with our primary clients, who have stopped all groups gathering for now, and offered them online training modules using video, Zoom conferencing, online learner modules etc, and we are hoping to be able to confirm contracts with them for the duration of this period of uncertainty and risk management.

I was initially quite upset by recent developments but I have quickly moved into the opportunity zone, realizing that it is how I respond to situations beyond my control, that will determine whether or not I adapt effectively and find the new opportunities that are already presenting themselves to me.

If you are in a position where you require any of the above services please do let me know. I am able to add value to any iteration of work required to be able to continue to develop people, to help in guiding people towards the right personal and professional choices, and most of all, in being able to find solid ground in uncertain times. While I am not happy about what is going on, and I have concern for what is going on, I am also excited by the possibilities such times bring.

“Weigi” (with crisis comes opportunity)

I look forward to connecting with you should you wish to discuss this further.

“Quite possibly, the biggest challenge facing people today is how to navigate through a complex and rapidly evolving landscape, without a clear map. Dealing with uncertainty and being able to respond to it without becoming the chaos is the key skill to our sustained progress.”
