The impact of being a Micro-Manager or Laissez-Faire leader.

Micro-management can have a detrimental impact on employees’ motivation and productivity. When employees feel that they are not trusted to complete tasks on their own, it can lead to a lack of ownership and pride in their work. This can also cause employees to become disengaged and ultimately impact the overall success of the team and the company and can lead to burnout and high turnover rates.

Employees who feel that they are not trusted to do their job may become stressed and anxious, which can lead to a decline in their mental health. Additionally, the constant monitoring and checking up on employees can lead to a sense of being suffocated, leading to employees quitting their jobs to find a healthier work environment.

Laissez-faire leadership can also have negative consequences. Leaders who give employees complete autonomy without any direction or guidance can build an environment of confusion, employees with a lack of focus, and missed deadlines. Employees may also feel unsupported and left to figure things out on their own, which can lead to frustration and lack of motivation.

Great leaders can find a balance. Providing clear expectations and direction, while also empowering their employees to take ownership of their work. They communicate regularly with their team members, providing support and guidance when needed, but also stepping back and allowing employees to work independently.

Managers who practice effective leadership also prioritize building relationships with their employees. They take the time to get to know their team members on a personal level, which helps build trust and establishes a positive work environment. Effective managers also provide opportunities for growth and development, which motivates employees to take on new challenges and responsibilities.

Effective leadership involves finding a balance between providing guidance and support while also empowering employees to take ownership. By prioritizing relationship building, providing opportunities for growth, and communicating effectively, managers can create a positive work environment.

What a great quick read Bryan Drackett! I’ve always checked on my staff repeatedly but now I’m going to take these 3 questions with me daily and it will be my new phrases moving forward. Thank you!
