IMO to Host LISW25 Launch Reception

Marking exactly one year before the start of London International Shipping Week 2025 (LISW25), the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will host the LISW25 Launch Reception on the Rooftop Terrace of its iconic London headquarters on Tuesday 17 September 2024.

IMO Secretary General, Arsenio Dominguez, will address the invited VIP audience which will include prominent leaders in UK and global shipping, ports and maritime services, as well as UK Government ministers and international representatives from the IMO and key foreign embassies in London.

The LISW25 Launch Reception will be sponsored by Clarksons, the world’s biggest shipbroker and shipping services provider.

Announcing the date and location of the Launch Reception, Sean Moloney, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of London International Shipping Week said: “We are thrilled to be back at the IMO for the launch and excited that IMO Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez will welcome the guests. We are also delighted that Clarksons is supporting this prestigious event which, exactly one year before LISW25, will herald the biggest and best London International Shipping Week so far.”

With at least 250 VIPs invited to attend, space will be limited. But our aim is to promote cross industry engagement across all age and diversity groups within the shipping sector so if space becomes available, tickets may be offered to anyone on the waiting list. To join the waiting list, please email [email protected] and mark the subject line IMO Waiting List.

UK Chamber of Shipping and London International Shipping Week join forces to support blue sky debate

The UK Chamber of Shipping’s new conference Shipping UK, and London International Shipping Week (LISW) have today announced a partnership as Supporting Organisations for the coming future.?

Both parties have agreed to support each other with marketing and PR support to help establish Shipping UK and help grow LISW domestically as well as internationally.?

Llewellyn Bankes-Hughes, Co-CEO and Co-founder of LISW, said: “The UK Chamber of Shipping originated almost 150 years ago and has long been held in the highest esteem both in the UK and abroad, and its forward-looking ambitions and sharp focus on thought leadership in the shipping sector dovetail perfectly with the ethos of London International Shipping Week. Its inaugural conference on 8 October will help ensure that the dialogue remains current and relevant in each of the fallow years between future LISWs, and I am looking forward to a long, strong and mutually successful partnership.”

Rhett Hatcher, CEO of the UK Chamber of Shipping, said: “We aim to establish our Shipping UK conference in the alternate years between LISWs. This will help the industry to continue discussing key issues in London, and give UK Chamber members and non-members, the opportunity to come together and network.

“While Shipping UK offers a completely different event to the very successful LISW, we see great synergy in helping each other raise the profile of these important industry events, and becoming ‘Supporting Organisations’ seems a great way to achieve this.” he added.

But is she actually leaving as the message ends with her contact details? If she is leaving totally agree she is the name and face of the brand. Bit of an over reaction, it’s a year away, a lot can happen in a year….

I am very sorry to see Karen is leaving. This is a huge loss to LISW. She has been an incredible asset to the LISW brand. We have been involved because of her influence and dedication. Thank you Karen Martin for everything you have done to build this brand!

Wow, the irreplaceable has left the building. A piece to dedicate to the years Karen has spent successfully building this great event would have been a better way to break this to everyone in the industry. A tough role to take on after Karen, some big shoes to fill. The event has lost one of the most epic women in the industry and the face itself of London Shipping week, will it ever be the same? But.... someone has gained an absolute legend (one can only assume) and will likely be the cat who has the cream right now. Kudos to them, whoever they may be, bagging the infamous Karen Martin!

Thank you for your messages which are well placed. We understand that it might seem unexpected to see the job advertisement today, but it follows the decision by Karen Martin to move onto pastures new after 13 years at Elaborate Communications Ltd and at London International Shipping Week 2025 and Shipping Innovation. We are very sorry to see Karen go as we value her contributions immensely, and she has indeed been a pivotal part of the LISW team and brand. She will be sorely missed. We are in the process of planning a formal announcement to celebrate her accomplishments and to ensure a smooth transition. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate this change.

Isn’t that Karen Martin‘s job you are advertising? Is she leaving? There doesn’t seem to have been any formal announcement that Karen is moving on – is this really the best way to handle it? Just seems a bit weird and a bit of a disservice to her, given everything she has brought to the LISW brand (let’s face it, she basically IS the LISW brand). Sorry but seeing that just doesn’t sit right with me.
