We are exposed to microbes including bacteria, viruses and fungi everyday. Many are beneficial and essential to our health while others are dangerous and even life threatening. Our immune system has the highly complex task of fending off these dangerous pathogens. The immune system is required to perform a considerable task, because it has to identify which microbes are considered a “friend” and which are a “foe”. This is probably also the reason why the entire defense system consists of billions of cells that work extremely closely together, virtually "hand in hand". All immune cells cooperate in a finely tuned way to detect and destroy foreign bodies, bacteria, viruses and other unwelcome intruders. Every second, millions of immune cells in the human body fight against attacks by microorganisms.
Since the immune system has to perform at its peak around the clock, everything has to be done to keep it strong. The great thing is that there are many ways that we can make lifestyle changes to support our immune system including: eating a healthy diet, moderate exercise and regular relaxation.
Nutrition plays a huge role in helping our immune system.?The immune system and metabolism rely on 47 vital and irreplaceable nutrients. Among them are 33 micronutrients, i.e. vitamins, minerals, trace elements, eight amino acids and omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. This is worth mentioning because our body cannot do without any of these compounds. Metabolism and body defense depend on these vital nutrients, they are essential.
The body is only optimally supplied if the nutrients are present at the right time in the right place and in the exact amount required. Since these biochemical compounds are cycled through our body, we have to supply them continuously. Irregular or inadequate food supply weakens the cells and can lead to a weakened immune response.

Not only is the quality and composition of our food important but so is the timing of our meals. For example, snacking has been proven to lead to a reduction in lymphocytes, cells vital for the body's immune response. A quick soft drink or lemonade here, a sausage or pizza there, and a few sweets with your coffee in between - the body is bound to react: The entire metabolic machine as well as the immune system are permanently in action - without a break!
What else can you do to support the immune system? We're looking forward to your comments!
