The?Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) has been updated this week to include Gulf and Jordanian visitors. The?(GCC) states, Jordan nationals will soon only be required to pay ￡10 to apply for an ETA, which will allow them to visit the UK multiple times over a two-year period.?
The Government remains steadfast in its efforts to control immigration, claiming that progress is being made. As part of this initiative, the Government has allocated a substantial budget to seek assistance from Turkish border forces in preventing migrants from crossing the channel.
During a parliamentary debate, Yvette Cooper, Shadow Home Secretary for the Labour Party, criticized the Government's claims, pointing out that net migration has reached a record high, since last December. This was part of a broader discussion on the Illegal Migration Bill.
Two interesting perspectives have emerged this week on migration control measures. Respected journalist Laura Kuenssberg has penned an insightful analysis, supported by comparative figures and hard facts, arguing that the Government's ambition to reduce migration is futile. Additionally, Gita Gopinath, the IMF deputy, believes that jobs filled by migrants can help alleviate the current inflation crisis in the UK.
