Summer somehow flew by and now October is around the corner. Lots to cover as immigration and business news continues to roll like never before.
- There was a huge announcement last week from Immigration Canada (IRCC) on more reductions to the study permit, further limits to spousal work permits and more. Feels like there's a new announcement every week these days. More info on their announcement and my thoughts on it here.
- Bit of an odd Express Entry week last week, more details on it and some interesting LinkedIn comments and opinions from my post here.
- It was a more opinionated Visto Show than normal last week, as I went into full detail on that IRCC announcement from above, EE draws and more, with a lot of live input from those of you who tuned in live, over here.
- My most popular post of the week was a story I heard from a Canadian company whose worker decided to head home after trying to settle in Canada and struggling to get PR/manage the high cost of living. Sparked a lot of interesting conversation. Check out the post and comments here.
- As more immigration programs get shuttered and interest for Canada struggles for the first time in a long time, more law firms are having to learn how to market to get clients. I talk about it more and my suggestion for the best way to market and grow a law firm here
(which could also apply to almost any other business too).
- Another shift I'm seeing: law firms offering DIY services (do it yourself), wherein they provide guidance and reviews but do not submit applications on behalf of clients. Lots of reasons for why this has become more popular, which I discuss more in this post
and guide we put together on it.
- As most of you know by now, I love pumping out content - both immigration, business and personal. So many benefits to doing so and I think it's a must for any business these days. Here's more
of why I think this way and how you can do it too.
Canadian immigration continues to fire on all cylinders and with back-to-school in our rearview, I expect busy times ahead for all. Thanks as always for following along on my journey and if you like this content, make sure you're following me on substack
where 2-3 times per week I share more of my journey as a Canadian lawyer and tech CEO.
