Immersive VR tackles depression stigma
Welcome back to this week's Inavate EMEA newsletter!
Research in recent years has shown a positive correlation between immersive/interactive technologies and effective mental health treatment/awareness. From the use of Tetris to prevent post-traumatic-stress symptoms to brand new research from the University of Tokyo that shows immersive VR interventions to be an effective catalyst for preventing stigma towards depression (story below). Immersive experiences offer a unique opportunity to increase empathy, and to have a positive impact not just in the short-term 'wow factor' of an experience, but to have a genuinely positive effect on the mind in clinical settings. Now that's something to think about!
Research from Kinly has revealed business are collecting data on employees’ home working hours. If at first that sounds a bit Orwellian, 'you weren't at your computer between 11:23 and 12:34, where were you?' etc. It's actually being used to protect employee's wellbeing because those WFH tend to work longer hours, and the environment they're working in probably hasn't gone through a proper health and safety assessment. With so many of us WFH, it's good we address these issues before any lasting damage is caused.
