IMMERSIVE FUTURES - AUGUST 2022
THE INSIDE TRACK
Insights into the world of immersive from those in the know...
Welcome to our new feature: learning from the experts, innovators and creative leaders we work with in the world of immersive. This month we sat down with our Head of Creative, Jack Phillips:
How would you explain immersive to your mum?
Slowly… Immersive is taking a passive experience such as a show, installation or brand exhibition, and converting it into an interactive space. Baking together elements such as live performance, technology or mixed reality, to create a participatory journey that tells a story.?
What immersive experiences have had a lasting effect on you?
I would say my early experience had the biggest impact. These came from music festivals at a young age, the likes of Glastonbury and Secret Garden Party. I remember finding my way through the woods at SGP one year and being blown away by the use of projection, sound design and sculptures that completely disorientated you. It was so simple, but created a new world inside the festival, I find it is often the simple ideas with a clear narrative that have the biggest effect on people.
What inspires your creativity when you’re planning immersive experiences?
I think this varies most days and creatively definitely benefits from switching up your routine. We are super lucky in London to live in what I believe is a hub for immersive, so you are never far from seeing an incredible new immersive event that inspires. There is such a mix of cultures and creatives here, that walking past a sax player on the underground is enough to get me going.
What’s next on your list of must-see immersive events?
