For Immediate Release: BPIA Report on African Union CIDO Diaspora Forum

-- BPIA President Alexandria Maloney was recently invited by the African Union Citizens and Diaspora Directorate (CIDO)?to attend the 2023 African Diaspora Forum on 5-6 December 2023 in Kampala, Uganda.

Over the years, the African diaspora have been noted to play a significant role in shaping global migration dynamics positively. The estimated populace of 19.5 million constituents outweigh the population might of Chad, Somalia and Senegal (IOM, 2022).

The African diaspora contribute to economic, social, political and cultural development of both host and origin countries. Understanding the diverse experiences, contributions, and challenges of African diaspora formations and their potential role in advancing the objectives of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) in Africa, remains essential. This activity of the African Union’s Directorate of Citizens and Diaspora Organizations (CIDO) aims to contribute to the implementation of GCM objectives 19 and 20 on the continent. Thus, showcasing Good-Practices from various AU-Member States, emphasizing the creation of enabling conditions for migrants and diaspora to fully contribute to sustainable development.

Building on this, the African Diaspora Forum aims to facilitate constructive dialogue and collaboration between African diaspora representatives, policymakers, and stakeholders to harness the potential of migration for sustainable development.
