Immediate Imposition of New Tariffs Not Expected
According to reporting today in the Wall Street Journal and Bloombergs.com, the Trump Admistration will "will call for federal agencies to study tariff policies and the US’s trade relationship with China, Canada and Mexico, according to incoming officials for the Trump White House." While this news does not mean additional tariffs are off the table, it appears to signal that there will be a period of study and negotiation prior to any new tariffs be assessed.
While the news does not deal with the high level of uncertainty involving international trade, it could be a sign that any forthcoming actions will be preceeded by a more normal "grace period" before they are imposed.
