It’s not uncommon to look at your favorite digital products or at domineering digital giants for inspiration when creating your own site or app. However, wanting to copy their decisions and have what they have is not a viable approach to creating online experiences. It’s actually a quick path to failure.

Create Your Own Digital Product

The problem with copying a giant such as Apple, Netflix, Amazon, or [insert name here], is that you are not them. You are and can only be you.

  • Blaze Your Own Trail: Your organization is its own unique entity. Your budget is your budget, your users are your users, and your problems are your problems. Those digital behemoths you look up to focused on their unique problems, users, and needs. If you copy anything, copy that mindset of focusing on yourself.
  • Create for YOUR Users: Drawing inspiration from digital products is fine, but truly successful digital products align with their own distinct identity. The best way to find this identity is to look to your users. Spend time and share your ideas with them. You’ll be so amazed by the ideas they give you; you won’t want to copy anyone else.?

Uniqueness Will Set You Apart

You may like what others are doing, but what does copying do for your digital product? Although aspects from industry leaders may be valuable, they won’t serve your problems, your purpose, or your users. Focus on your unique challenges and users and make the best site or app that’s perfect for you.?
