Imitation// Philippians 4:9
by Mark Jordan
Have you heard that imitation is the finest form of flattery? We also hear people bump up against it by saying, “Do what I say, not why I do.” Bottom line: we can struggle with imitation when it reveals traits we’d rather not accept about self. So why do you think the Apostle Paul not only invited imitation, but instructed it? It’s because of his confidence in the One after whom he modeled his own life — JESUS! Paul knew he was imitating Jesus, and if anyone imitated him, that person was in cosmically good company. So, are you imitating Christ in such a way you feel comfortable with someone else imitating you? If not, work on that. For as William J. Toms said, “Be careful how you live. You may be the only Bible some person ever reads.”
