While lubrication system of an Internal Combustion Engine has since improved leaps and bounds Kerala SRTC engineers and other responsible officers consider it similar to a "???????"(offering to God Almighty to get their wish fulfilled). If it works the credit is "mine" if not the invisible "God" need to be blamed.
Considering that average quantity of engine oil at 15 litres for a Tata or Ashok Leyland ( capacity varies from one engine model to other) 6000 buses use 90,000 litres is in service. The recommended change period is also variable. Just for an example, the total cost of engine oil is around Rs,3.15 crore. For the sake of clarity if one bus moves one Km it cost the Corporation Rs.0.52 paise on account of engine oil alone. ( based on Rs.350.00 per lit X15 liters/10,000 km)
What do they do with this 90,000 litres of used oil? To whom they dispose of? On an auction basis? Wholesale basis? Who buys it? What do they do with it?
The daily running distance as per their own records is 14,22,546 km per day. At 10,000 km change schedule, the "arithmetic" shows that oil change is required for 142 buses. Means 142X15X350 per day? That is Rs,5,96,400 as oil change expenses per day. Or Rs.5,96,400X 365=Rs.2,17,68,600 per year. That is a lot of money? Please divide this amount by the average daily passengers transported by, (according to Wikipedia is 345,000) That is Rs.1.73 per passenger? Correct me if I am wrong.
Enough of "oil" analysis.
