Imagining 21st Century... in 1972

Eight archivist walk into a bar...

... and start talking future, technology and the brave new world of the archives in thirty years. The year was 1972.

I created this infographic collage to spark your interest in the paper that followed that discussion. "Archives 2002" appeared in the Canadian Archivist (precursor of Archivaria), and was co-authored by a group of archivist, including the legendary Hugh Taylor.

Big thanks to Greg Bak for sending me a reference to this fascinating piece last year. The full article can be found online here.

Great to see this! (and thanks for the shout out) I also love this quote from (who else?) Hugh Taylor, at the very end of the article: "We must learn to master technology and spring ourselves loose for creative activity that only a human being and a thoroughly professional archivist can accomplish."
