Imagine you are preparing for a race.

Imagine you are preparing for a race.

Imagine you are preparing for a race.

I am not going to tell you:

  1. How far you will run
  2. Over which terrain you will run
  3. Which kit you should bring
  4. When it is taking place
  5. Where it is taking place

I am able to tell you to keep working hard, keep focused and keep calm, whilst I work out the details. I can also tell you that not everyone will be running the same distance as you.

By treating our schools, teachers and students in this way, we are sowing the seeds of another 2020 GCSE/A-Level results day meltdown.

How can we ask our students and teachers to remain motivated if there is no clear goal to visualise?

How can we remain calm when we saw this unfold last year and were promised solutions by October, by November, by December, by January, by February 22nd …. and still we wait. When a vacuum of information exists then it gets filled by worry and anxiety.

Coronavirus in no longer unprecedented, schools closed for the first time in March 2020, almost a year later there is still no clear strategy towards exams.

These are incredibly tough decisions to take, but they need to be taken early and decisively. The solution was never going to be perfect during these challenging times. But at least the playing field would have been level and we would have been able to see where the goalposts are.

During these difficult times for all, whether you are running a metaphorical race, or preparing for exams, remember the 5 P’s.

Perfect Preparation Prevents Poor Performance.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! We should get used to new reality and act according to it. I think that we will never go back to what we had before 2020
