World Wildlife Day on March 3, 2023

As we celebrate World Wildlife Day on March 3, 2023, we must recognize the critical role that wildlife and biodiversity play in sustaining our planet. This day marks a special occasion to raise awareness and celebrate the world's wild animals and plants while highlighting the importance of partnerships for conservation efforts.

This year's theme, "Partnerships for Wildlife Conservation," underscores the need for collaboration and cooperation between governments, businesses, and local communities to protect and preserve our planet's precious natural resources. With a focus on marine life and oceans, as well as business and finance, this year's World Wildlife Day is an opportunity to explore the innovative ways we can work together to address some of the most significant environmental challenges of our time.

In support of World Wildlife Day and WWF , we want to raise awareness of this critical topic. Our AI/CC :: Artificial Intelligence Creative Community Creative Community has been busy imagining what the world would look like without nature and prompting AI tools to show us the images that we no longer have to guess but are shocked to see. Our collaboration with Brave Bison and WWF focused on how artists could use AI art to imagine a world without nature through collaboration with AI/CC Creative Community artists.

Did you know the following facts about endangered spices?

1. The IUCN Red List currently has 30,178 species threatened with extinction.
2. In the last 250 years, 571 species have been confirmed extinct.
3. Between 200 and 2,000 extinctions occur every year.
4. Extinction is 1,000-10,000 times higher than the natural rate.
5. Hunters kill over 200,000 animals for trophies every year.
6. Out of 19 polar bear subpopulations, only one is increasing.
7. Not conserving global biodiversity could cost us billions.
8. Plants are going extinct at almost 500 times the natural rate.
9. In the previous 250 years, 571 species have been confirmed extinct.
10. Human behavior has changed roughly 66% of the ocean surface.
11. There are currently 3,900 tigers left in the world.
12. The red wolf is one of the most endangered species, extinct by 2026.
13. Pandas are threatened by habitat destruction and poaching.
14. Cheetahs have low genetic diversity, making conservation challenging.
15. The western black rhino was declared extinct in 2011.
16. Rhino poaching and the illegal rhino horn trade have increased sharply since 2007, with approximately 20,000 rhinos remaining in Africa.
17. Asian elephant populations have been halved, with only 40,000-50,000 left.
18. More than 40% of all amphibians are threatened by human activity.
19. Over 1,000 species of sharks and rays exist, and 316 species are facing extinction, including the giant manta ray.
20. Six out of seven sea turtle species are endangered or threatened.
21. Whales were hunted for oil, food, and clothing, with over 350,000 whales killed between 1904 and 1967.
22. Bees are the most efficient pollinators, and if they go extinct, many plants may disappear, causing a chain reaction that will harm nature and society as a whole. Bees are disappearing at alarming rates due to intensive farming, land-use changes, global warming, climate change, invasive species, pesticides, and diseases.

Protecting our oceans and the marine life inhabiting them must be a global priority. Marine conservation is critical, given that approximately 70% of our planet is covered by water. This year's World Wildlife Day provides an opportunity to showcase the progress in this area.

Likewise, the role of business and finance in conservation efforts must be noticed. Successful partnerships between conservation organizations and companies ensure funding is available to support vital conservation work. We can create sustainable practices that benefit our planet and economy by working together.

World Wildlife Day also marks the 50th anniversary of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). This organization has played a critical role in promoting the sustainability of endangered species. CITES has been instrumental in building partnerships and bringing together different groups to achieve a common goal. Their work has helped to ensure that endangered species are protected, and their ecosystems preserved for future generations.
