Soon there will be a total of 100 billion connections around the world. However as it stands service providers will find it difficult to meet the demand for hyper-connectivity due to complexity and fragmentation of their network architecture. 5G has the potential to add to this complexity unless service providers embrace automation and simplify their networks, their operations and their management of systems.
The vast majority of CSP’s globally have little or no automation in their networks and in order to introduce new services that require faster and more complicated responses from operations (e.g. on-demand services), automation is needed to be able to change processes or settings.
Introducing new technology such as virtualisation that necessitates operations at speeds not feasible for manual processes.
Digital society wants new services that require faster and more complicated responses from operations. Think about next level customer service or a personalised shopping experience. The World Economic Forum indicates that network automation could add 9 billion Euro in operating profit from less frequent and shorter network outages.
Autonomous networks need to take advantage of AI, big data, cloudification and to provide fully automated, self-healing and self optimizing capabilities which operate right across the stack from operations
The reality is that operators need to offer Zero wait, zero touch, zero trouble services which can provide the best possible user experience, full lifecycle automation and maximum utilisation.
Most important part of this transformation is a mindset change from a build and operate to design with operate.
It is time to move to an autonomously-driven network and highlight the necessary architecture required to achieve the goals.
Some possible applications of an autonomous network
Keep patients alive with remote IV pump monitoring
Find lost children with IP cameras on the subway
Provide next-level customer service by creating a personalized shopping experience
But all of these experiences rely on connecting humans to technology.
And those connections require more than newer hardware – they require a smarter network.
In order to achieve these goals our client is looking to build a full autonomous network, closed loop automation to implement automation into the telecoms network.
I am looking to speak with Leaders who are building a secure, self-driving, and self-healing autonomous network to join a new Research Centre in Dublin with an ambitious goal to change the world.
