Imagine A Mythic Future

Imagine A Mythic Future

Happy Holidays and New Year!

This year has been a topsy turvy, upside down time for many of us. I would like to wish you all a restful holiday break. For many of us around the world that will be difficult due to social distancing or travel restrictions. I hope that each of us is able to celebrate in whatever way we can.

It is important to remember the journey has not concluded. The path into 2021 is not clear. However, this is how all great stories begin. They start with a mystery, a hint of what lies ahead enticing us all to turn the page. One of the most famous opening lines written in an English language novel ran through my head many times this year, -

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair”. —Charles Dickens, A Tale Of Two Cities,

There were many weeks during lockdown I could not read. It was one of the hardest moments for me. Despite having the time to read, my ability to concentrate had been shattered. I would have loved to dive deeper into ‘The Tale Of Two Cities’, past the first line, but it was not possible. And this felt dangerous to me. If we lose our ability to imagine, it is a crushing blow to our humanity.

My wish for you is to hold onto to your ability to imagine. If you can, read, write or dream and take a break from our current reality.

Imagine a mythic future. If only for a moment, close your eyes and open your mind and dream. Know there will be darkness, sprinkled with a dash of magic and hard work yet to come. Wherever our journey leads, know that future generations will be watching us. They will be writing, discussing and analysing our actions. So give them an epic story, a journey for the ages. Give them the mythic future we all deserve.

Go well, dream often and I will see you on the road ahead. This story won’t write itself and we need each other to first imagine it, then to live it and then most importantly to tell it.
