Identity Affirmation
If the first and most powerful act of God was to create man in his own image - then the greatest response to the redemptive work of Jesus is to accept that we are his workmanship and to exchange the puny existence we have for the glorious purpose that he offers.?
We don’t have a sin problem in the world.
We have an identity problem in the world.
Sin is a demonstration of disintegration. The problem with sin is that – especially as Christ followers – when it becomes our point of identification, we become that very thing rather than what God says to be true.
When we agree with what God says to be true about himself and appropriate that with what God says to be true about us in relation to himself - this is integration.
Integration is a form of agreement.
Agreement proceeds alignment.
As you and I agree with what God says to be true about himself, it begins to permeate all of the disparate parts within each of us. Welcome to our primary work - reconciliation.
When we begin to believe what God says to be true about us in relation to himself, we become that very thing He created us to be.? The righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” - 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 ESV
I often hear things like – ‘I just want to know what God wants me to do.’?
Here’s a start: Be one.?
Be reconciled.?
Be new.?
Believe.
The haunting voice of disintegration keeps us bound to the past.? One of the most powerful sections of this set of verses says, “NOT COUNTING their trespasses against them.”
The redeeming voice (behold, the new has come) of integration allows us to be a message the world desperately needs now.
The challenge may lie in the fact that we are counting when God has stopped counting.? Ever wonder why the world around us, our coworkers, and our neighbors don’t trust us enough to believe what we say we believe??
It’s probably because we not only count their sins, but we also lead with their sins, and we remind them of their sins.??
The shift for me started when I asked God to give me the same lens, perspective, and picture He has of the world I interact with.?
It was an image I hadn’t ever seen.?
It was the image of God.

4 周Excellent! I have a post it on my monitor that simply asks “What if you believed what I say about you?” Reminder to me that my identity is in Him, so be His daughter and walk in confidence in the work He lays before me with the power of the Holy Spirit.

1 个月Mr. Paul I am trying to Learn more. I read Bible from Cover to Cover 35 Times already. Still continue to read the Word. I believe God Created man with his own hands from the clay. The whole was destroyed after Noah's flood. Only Noah's family was spared. If so, why people have different color, different, different hair color, different features?

1 个月A powerful reminder! Our identity in Christ is the foundation of our faith, and it's essential to align ourselves with God's truth about us. I love how you highlighted the distinction between having a sin problem versus an identity problem. Thank you for sharing this insightful article!
