Imagine having 'meaningful'? control of your data...

Imagine having 'meaningful' control of your data...

This idea has existed for a long time. It ain't new. It's unlikely to go away.

But what does this actually mean?

When designing information sharing initiatives, like the Consumer Data Right Regime here in Australia, it's important to establish shared vocabulary. We need to speak the same language. We need to define that which we intend to design.

As part of our recent research with the Data Standards Body, we had to define "consent management" and "control" so we could effectively design for it.

Consent Management: The process through which an individual (or group) exercises control of data they have previously consented to share.

Control: The power an individual (or group) has to influence the outcome of an experience (enabled by consent-based data sharing) through the assertion of an active and informed choice (i.e. revoking consent).

This video provides a reasonably detailed overview of our research, findings and recommendations.

We built upon this and other recent work to release a new report. In this report we propose a collaborative platform ecosystem strategy that will enable us to design a humanity centric digital economy.

This is how we're working towards giving people the power of meaningful control.

Just note that this is only one piece of the puzzle. We cannot rely solely on control. We need to shift incentive structures, design trustworthy technologies and agree on real transparency and accountability mechanisms.

The only way we can do this is by working together.

So, once you've checked out the report and watched the video, get in touch.
