Image creation and apps

Traditionally, the model of the object of contemplation in museums works on the idea of an aura. For us, laymen, the aura of an specific object(Leonardo's Gioconda at the Louvre, Velazquez's Las Meninas at El Prado, etc) is that quality that allows you to access content via aesthetic appreciation. In the consecrated, designed, mediated space of the museum, you are allowed to access this process:

individual------->museum------->artwork------> trascendence

The white cube galleries are a private, entrepreneurial offshoot of that model, which in turn led to the art fairs.

Of the three, the latter was affected the more during the pandemic, as it could be compared to a concert or festival, a massive gathering from people everywhere, epidemiologically difficult to trace and control. These circumstances did not other thing that to push the digital into a bigger space of our lives, pushing everything to become more virtual, remote, smart, and artificially-intelligent.

Will the idea of contemplating an object with your bare eyes as an irreplaceable experience survive the current panorama? we could adventure that the consumption of objects will shrink probably, as smaller collectors will move their resources to other priorities. However, big private collectors, in the isolation of their places, would still make their collections their solace?. This would be no different from old times, where most of the art never saw the light of the general public contemplation, sleeping through the privileged cabinets and studiolos of the rich and powerful. If this happens, it will leave a space in the collective imagination to be explored -or exploited- through the virtual.

Creators. Either they could go all the way via AI creation or they can go all the way back to the roots, in an artisanal way. The continuous improvement of AI applications makes it easy to prey on archives of old lore and to recycle and regurgitate them ad infinitum without human intervention.

But like in sports and games, the fun is making things yourself, and that is a point humans were eager to enjoy in the middle of isolation. The autarchic mindset that takes hold might favour DIY practices and examples.

Craft as skill---->-----DIY----->----- self-sustainable economy---->-----nostalgic

AI and the curatorial nous. Since AI as of now, produces content either mathematically (geometric operations, etc.) or figuratively (using archives), it is possible to develop the mentality of curation/generation as an aesthetic act.

This will be a prolongation of this stream during the XX century. Allegedly, Abstract art opened the gates and favoured this, somehow, placing most of the interpretation in the curator cum interpreter; for users to be curators above all, where there is no need to create but to generate, collect and judge.

Curation is canon-creation, prompt-conception and archive-articulation.

Patristic---->-Scholastic-------->--Curatorial-

---->-conceptual/minimal------>--AI/ML----->--new normal?

The point with this curator-as-artist point is that can be linked with the patristic and scholastic approach in the senses that is not linked to the art as a practice of a craft, but to the exercise of harvesting over a corpus done in time gone, this postmodern meta-reference that goes on and on, not only in idea, but in form.
